An Indian beamline has been set up at “Photon Factory” synchrotron radiation facility (Beamline 18B) (http://www.saha.ac.in/web/photon-factory-home) in Japan for catering the need of Indian scientists in the subject areas of (i) Powder diffraction including diffraction from nanomaterials at various sample environment like low/high temperatures (10 K to 300K and 300 K to 1300 K) and high pressures (up to 30 GPa). (ii) Diffraction from single crystals including epitaxial multilayers. (iii) X-ray reflectivity and diffuse scattering from solid surfaces/interfaces and (iv) a special set up to carry out reflectivity, diffuse scattering and grazing incidence diffraction studies of liquid surfaces. The project is sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India and coordinated by Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru in collaboration with Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata.
Applications are invited from eligible candidates (Bonafide Indian nationals only) on plain paper to work on the project. Candidates with Ph.D. degree will work in the capacity of Research Associate for a minimum period of one year for carrying out scientific responsibilities and to support users of the Indian Beamline. A panel of personnel will be selected by a committee on the basis of qualification and experience in similar projects. The selected candidate will also get a fixed amount of beamtime to carry out his/her own research activities. Interested candidates should apply with an updated CV and arrange to send 2 letters of recommendations. Candidates having experience in powder x-ray diffraction in high pressure, low temperature and/or experience in surface scattering techniques like reflectivity, GISAXS will get preference. Those holding a permanent position are also encouraged to apply through proper channels, preferably sending an advanced copy by email.
