The cryoDuck Tokyo Days 2026 workshop was held over three days, from May 11 to May 13.
This workshop brought together practitioners, researchers, and engineers involved in cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM), with the primary aim of advancing drug discovery and discussing the future direction of next-generation cryo-EM.
On the first day, more than 70 participants from Japan and abroad gathered at the KEK Tsukuba Campus. With over 80% of the attendees coming from overseas, the event proved to be a highly international assembly.

In the morning, guided tours were conducted at the Cryo-EM Experimental Building, the Structural Biology Research Center (SBRC), the Photon Factory (PF) synchrotron radiation facility, and the Belle II detector located in the Tsukuba Experimental Hall.
In the afternoon, presentations were delivered on the themes of “Cryo-EM in the Cloud & Automated Processing” and “Facility Management, User Training & Collaboration”, followed by active discussions among participants.
These tours and presentations provided a valuable opportunity to experience cutting-edge infrastructure and technologies related to cryo-EM, while also fostering interaction among a diverse research community across disciplines and sectors.
Furthermore, meaningful discussions offering many valuable insights were held on one of the central themes of the workshop: improving accessibility.
