BL-2A/B : Multiple Undulator beamline for Spectroscopic Analysis of Surface and HeteroInterface : MUSASHI and Photoelectron Spectroscopy Station

Overview

Beamline group Subcommittee 1 (Photoelectron spectroscopy)
Technique
  • Soft X-ray spectroscopy
Features
  • Monochromatic light in a wide energy range (30-300 eV (VUV) and 250-2000 eV (SX)) are available at the same port by using two undulators for VUV and SX lights in tandem alignment and grazing incidence monochromators.
  • Vertical and horizontal linear polarized and left and right circular polarized lights are available at the VUV region.
  • A horizontal linear polarized light is available at the SX region.
  • Branch BF is a free port, at which a bring-your-own equipment can be installed.
Area of research
  • Surface and interface science
  • Condensed matter physics

Notes
  • If you apply for a proposal that is not for continuous use, please be sure to contact with the BL staff in advance.

Performance

Source
  • SX: PF 2.5-GeV Ring, Undulator (planer type)
  • VUV: PF 2.5-GeV Ring, Undulator (six variable rows of magnetic arrays)
Optics
  • A variable-included-angle varied-line-spacing plane-grating monochromator
  • Focusing mirror: Toroidal mirror
Energy range
  • Mainly 35-2000 eV
(VUV: 35-300 eV, SX: 250-2000 eV)
Resolution
  • VUV: E/ΔE > 20000
  • SX: E/ΔE > 10000
Energy resolution of a VUV light
Energy resolution of a SX light
Beam size
  • 100 (V) × 500 (H) μm
Photon flux
  • 1011 - 1012 photons/s
Photon flux exit slit size of 50 μm
Instruments
  • Soft X-ray spectroscopic system
Detectors
  • Electron detector
Remote / Mail-in
  • Remote measurements are partially possible, but the sample transfer and the transfer of liq. He should be done manually.
