Particle Study course
The Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI, was established in 1988 as a graduate university without undergraduate programs, originally as a national university (currently a National University Corporation). Each course is directly connected to its respective foundational research institution, aiming to cultivate researchers with broad perspectives and creative capabilities who can proactively respond to new trends in academic research. This structure provides several unique advantages compared to graduate schools attached to conventional universities.
Graduate students in the Particle and Nuclear Physics Course belong to either the theoretical or experimental research groups at the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in Tsukuba City and Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture. They receive comprehensive graduate education, from fundamental lectures to research guidance, from KEK staff who also serve as SOKENDAI faculty members.
This course provides a well-balanced education in both theoretical and experimental aspects across a wide range of fields related to particle and nuclear physics, with the goal of fostering individuals equipped with both a broad perspective and a high level of expertise who can contribute to further advancements in these fields. As KEK serves as an international research hub in particle and nuclear physics, students are immersed in the global research environment from an early stage in their graduate education, allowing them to gain foundational skills with a broad perspective.
Each year, around 10 students are accepted into both the theoretical and experimental tracks. These students come from diverse academic backgrounds, engaging in rigorous study and aiming for the forefront of research while supporting and challenging one another.
Fields of Study in This Course:
• Theoretical Research Group
• Experimental Research Group
