KEK THEORY Workshop 2024: Bridging particle physics, condensed matter physics and quantum information theory
January 6th, 2025
KEK Theory Workshop 2024 has been held at KEK Tsukuba campus from December 11 to 13.
Various topics have been discussed in the past in this series of workshops, but the main theme this year was tensor network and quantum computing, which have been developing very rapidly in recent years. On the first day, the methods for applying tensor network to particle physics and to condensed matter physics were discussed. On the second day, the basic ideas of quantum error correction, which is important in quantum computing, was discussed and deep relationship to gravity theory was elaborated.
On the last day, the history of the development of tensor network was overviewed, and the discussion extended to its relationship to the topological phase and the renormalization group in condensed matter physics.
The greatest aspect of the workshop this time was that researchers from various fields such as particle physics, condensed matter physics and quantum information theory gathered in one place and had in-depth discussions without feeling any barriers between different fields.
Many participants of the workshop seemed to be pleased that they were able to deepen their understanding on these hot topics through this workshop.
