[Welcome to the IPNS] Interview with Dr. Kaori Fuyuto of the Theory center
November 5th, 2025
In May 2025, Dr. Kaori Fuyuto joined the Theory Center at IPNS as an associate professor.
We interviewed her about what sparked her interest in the world of particle physics, the research she has conducted, and how she refreshes her mind when faced with challenges in her work.
■What sparked your interest in particle physics?
Like many others, I had a vague interest in the universe since I was a child. After entering university, I gradually became interested in particle physics, and I was drawn to theoretical research that uses mathematics to study the origins of the universe.
■What kind of research were you involved in before coming to KEK?
I was basically doing the same kind of research as I’m doing now at KEK. I spent almost ten years in the US working on fundamental symmetry tests, such as CP violation and lepton number violation.
■What kind of research do you hope to pursue at KEK?
Fundamental symmetry tests.
I’d like to explore further how we can probe physics beyond the Standard Model through them.
■Can you share your method of refreshing your mind when facing difficulties in research and work?
Chatting with friends and family, eating delicious food, and traveling!
We look forward to your future activities at the IPNS!
