[Welcome to the IPNS] Interview with Mr. Yuki Fujii of the Instrumentation Technology Development Center
February 25th, 2026
In April 2025, Mr. Yuki Fujii joined the Instrumentation Technology Development Center at IPNS as a technical associate.
We interviewed him about what sparked his interest in the world of particle physics, the research he has conducted, and how he refreshes his mind when faced with challenges in his work.
■What sparked your interest in particle physics?
I was influenced by my parents and have been fond of science from a young age, especially astronomy, physics, and mathematics. Although I had some prior knowledge of particle physics, the real trigger for studying it interestingly was joining KEK.
■What kind of research were you involved in before coming to KEK?
I belonged to an astrophysics laboratory at Nagoya University. My master ’s thesis focused on developing a spectrograph for an infrared telescope in South Africa. I worked on electrical circuits, optical alignment, and the use of cryogenic equipment, which I believe connects closely to my current work.
■What kind of research do you hope to pursue at KEK?
I am currently studying the operation of cryogenic systems. My goal is to become an expert in operating KEK’s cryogenic facilities and, beyond that, a professional who deeply understands the physics behind cryogenic machines.
■Can you share your method of refreshing your mind when facing difficulties in research and work?
I enjoy driving, traveling, and eating good food. Visiting places I’ve never been to is especially refreshing.
We look forward to your future activities at the IPNS!
