I’m a mechanical engineer aimed at unravelling the underlying physics of the universe. In this context, I support physicists and astronomers by using various 3D CAD programs to design and analyze the mechanical and thermal aspects of diverse measurement instruments, which by nature almost exclusively involve cryogenics and vacuum.
My path has led me across the world, from CERN in Switzerland to SRON in the Netherlands and now QUP in Japan. Key projects I’ve contributed to at SRON include the design of a cryomodule for testing novel microwave SQUID multiplexed readout technology of TES bolometers, optical test setups for ESA's CO2M and TANGO missions, and the mechanical structure that holds the DESHIMA spectrometer's mirror module in the ASTE telescope. At CERN, I developed an interferometer- & cryostat-based instrument for measuring thermal expansion at cryogenic temperatures down to 4 K and used it to analyze multiple samples, most notably the Nb3Sn cables for the LHC's High Luminosity upgrade.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, action sports such as snowboarding and obstacle course runs, drawing and gaming.

Research Content

At QUP, I will be working on the mechanical and thermal analysis and design of the Focal Plane Unit (FPU) of the Low Frequency Telescope (LFT) of JAXA's LiteBIRD satellite mission and various startup research projects such as a dark matter detection setup in the Kamioka mine. During these activities, I intend to improve my proficiency with CAD/FEA simulations, especially w.r.t. frequency analysis, and further incorporate topological optimization into my design workflow. I'm also hoping to familiarize myself with certain multiphysics programs so I can learn how to integrate non-mechanical requirements - thermal, magnetic, etc. - into my designs.
