外国人が日本で運転するには、下記いずれかの免許証が必要です。
To drive in Japan, you need to hold one of the following driver’s licenses:

1. 日本の運転免許証 Japanese Driver’s License

外国発行の運転免許証を保持している場合
- 保持している運転免許証から日本の運転免許証への切替（外免切替）が可能。

保持していない場合

If you hold a driver’s license issued outside Japan:
- You can convert your license to a Japanese driver’s license. For more information, see the Ibaraki Police’s website (the PDF file titled “English Version”).

If you DO NOT hold any driver’s license:
- You need to take and pass driving tests in Japan.

2. 特定の国で発行された運転免許証 Driver’s Licenses Issued in Certain Countries
|

以下の国で発行された運転免許証とその免許証の翻訳文※を携帯する。
※特定機関発行の翻訳文のみ有効。

日本上陸後、最長１年まで運転可能。

A driver’s license issued in one of the following countries, along with its translation*
- Switzerland
- Germany
- France
- Belgium
- Monaco
- Taiwan
* Only translations issued by specific
organizations are valid.

Valid up to 1 year after your entry into Japan.

3. 国際運転免許証（IDP）International Driving Permit (IDP)

ジュネーブ交通条約に基づいて発給されたIDPと外国人免許証を携帯する。

IDP発給/取得日から1年間有効（運転可能）。

IDP issued abroad under the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, along with your valid driver’s license.

Valid up to 1 year from the date of issuance.
