Call for proposals of experiments at TRIAC

TRIAC is a radioactive ion beam facility of Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies (IPNS), High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), and is installed at Tokai Research and Development Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). TRIAC can provide various radioactive ion beams with energies up to 1.1MeV/u at the moment.

This is the call for proposals of experiment to be performed at TRIAC in the year of 2008 (Japanese Fiscal year from April, 2008 to March, 2009).

1. Preparation for proposals and Process after receiving proposals:

The scope of proposals must be only for scientific purpose, not for military purpose.

The form of the application can be downloaded from the web site, http://triac.kek.jp/en/. In completing the application form, please follow the “Guidelines for preparation of the application form”. The oral presentation for each proposal must be given in the annual meeting of the TRIAC Program Advisory Committee (PAC) to be scheduled in January of 2008. The PAC will review all the proposals in the meeting and give decisions for approval. If necessary, a PAC member may make contact with the spokesperson prior to the PAC meeting. When preparing the proposals, the applicants are strongly requested to find a contact person, one of the staffs of TRIAC.

The result of the PAC's review will be officially informed to the spokesperson of the proposal.

The announcement includes the approved number of days for experiment and comments to the proposal.

The approved proposal is effective from April 1, 2008, and is valid for two years in maximum, depending on the proposal. For performing experiments, the "Plan of experiments at TRIAC" should be submitted twice a year, according to the operational periods of TRIAC. There are two operational periods a year, the first period operating from May to August and the second from November to March next year. (Depending on the operational conditions of TRIAC, the exact date can be moved around there)

 2.Regulations and Intellectual Property

The execution of the approved proposal must be conducted in a manner consistent with the Japanese laws, KEK internal regulations. The scientific results obtained through experiments at TRIAC should be open to the public, in principle. Whenever a patent right is declared, the ownership is to be determined by negotiation based on the contributions by the members and member institutes therein.

3. Personal Information

Please note that the personal information in the proposal will be used only for the purpose of evaluation of the proposed experiment. Names of spokespersons, their affiliation and the titles of the approved experiments will appear in the KEK web pages and publications.

Useful information on the TRIAC can be found on the web site: http://triac.kek.jp. For more detailed information, please contact the person in charge of the public use of TRIAC or your contact person.
