A Report on KEK-Cosmo 2026— “Large-Scale Structure Formation in the Universe: Past Developments and Future Prospects”

The workshop “Large-Scale Structure Formation in the Universe: Past Developments and Future Prospects” was held at the KEK Tsukuba campus from May 28 to 29, 2026. As part of the annual KEK-Cosmo series, this workshop serves as an international platform for scholarly exchange in the field of Cosmo physics. In total, 77 researchers working in theory, observations, and numerical simulations from Japan and abroad attended the workshop. It provided an opportunity to review the progress of large-scale structure studies over the past three decades and to discuss current challenges and future prospects for the coming decade, taking into account recent advances in cosmic microwave background observations, galaxy surveys, numerical simulations, and machine learning/AI techniques.

In addition to broad overview talks by invited speakers, poster presentations by early-career researchers were also held. Researchers exchanged views on recent issues related to precision tests of the Lambda-CDM model, the current standard model of cosmology incorporating cold dark matter and a cosmological constant that drives the accelerated expansion of the Universe searches for new physics beyond it. They also explored new research directions opened up by next-generation observations and analysis methods.

The workshop also served as an opportunity to celebrate the 60th birthday of Prof. Takahiko Matsubara of the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies. During the closing session, Prof. Matsubara shared many nostalgic photographs, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
