The 42nd Program Advisory Committee for the Nuclear and Particle Physics at J-PARC was held from July 8 to 10 at the AYA’S LABORATORY Quantum Beam Research Center (AQBRC) in Tokai, Ibaraki. The committee is responsible for reviewing proposals and addressing important issues related to the Nuclear and Particle Physics Program using the accelerator at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). This committee marked a transition to a new four-year term, with both outgoing and incoming committee members participating. A facility tour was conducted for the new members on the afternoon of July 10.

Each experimental group gave presentations on the overview and progress in their experiment, the status of the beamline, detectors and the data taking, upgrade and maintenance work, and their requested beam time schedules. Based on these presentations, the committee members reviewed and evaluated the proposals.

The committee also addressed how to allocate the unscheduled beamtime from before the summer of 2026, reviewed the main ring accelerator operational plan, and discussed the beamtime allocation through the summer of 2027. With a shared commitment to maximizing the limited beamtime to deliver high-impact scientific outcomes, they exchanged concrete views on the future direction of facility operations and the basic policies for the next fiscal year.

The recommendations made by the Committee will guide future research activities and the efficient operation of J-PARC.
