Geant4 Beginners Training Course 2024 held
(English translation 2025-01-21)
Geant4 Beginners Training Course for radiation detector simulation was held at Nagoya University from June 26th to 28th. For this event, we received cooperation from Nagoya University Kobayashi-Maskawa Institute for the Origin of Particles and the Universe (KMI) for providing and managing the venue. Forty-nine graduate students and corporate researchers participated in high-energy physics, nuclear experiments, and astrophysics. As part of the Geant4 Japan group, four staff members of the KEK Computing Research Center cooperated as lecturers at the event.
Geant4 is a software toolkit widely used in high-energy physics and nuclear experiments for detector simulation. It provides the C++ libraries for geometry and physics models necessary to perform detector simulations. Users are required to develop their applications using these libraries. In this training course, the basics of application development were explained using training materials edited by the Geant4 Japan group. The Geant4 Japan group has reorganized the essence of the materials from Geant4 seminars held worldwide into content for beginners. These materials explain the basic topics that beginners should understand to perform Geant4 simulations, which are available on the official course website.
Before the main course, we held a workshop where two users introduced Geant4 case studies. We had discussions with Geant4 Japan group members regarding the issues they are currently facing.
