Closing the 40-Year history of HEPnet-J Network

HEPnet-J has contributed to the growth of the Japanese high-energy physics (HEP) society by connecting domestic universities related to HEP at high speed (at that time) since the dawn of network technology in the 1980s as a dedicated network.
Nowadays, SINET6, Japan's academic information network, connected all prefectures in Japan at more than 100 Gbps, ending HEPnet-J's role of securing its bandwidth.
At its peak, HEPnet-J had 35 participating universities and institutes. And, even when HEPnet-J was scheduled to be terminated in FY2020, the number of node universities remained at 15. On September 29, 2023, Nagoya University was the last node, bringing the shutdown on 40 years of service.　 HEPnet-J/sc will continue to be used as another inter-university closed network connecting computing resources for computational physics such as Lattice QCD.
