Mechanical Engineering Center's Masterpiece: Champion Board for Quiz Battle “WHAT 2022”

We received a request to create a champion board as a supplementary prize for the winner of the quiz competition "High School Quiz Battle WHAT 2022" hosted by QuizKnock, which is sponsored by KEK. The main requests were to produce the KEK logo and nameplate, and to process the acrylic plate to fit the semiconductor mask actually used in the experiment.
Acrylic plates can be easily processed using the laser processing machine introduced in 2019. The nameplate was also made by engraving characters using the same laser processing machine.

We decided to create a KEK logo by combining three types of metals (copper, brass, and aluminum). The KEK logo is made up of a combination of ellipses, we converted it into numerical data using 3D-CAD, cut out each part from a plate with a wire-cut electrical discharge machine, assembled them, and then polished them to complete. When creating the processing data, we devised ways such as rounding the sharp parts.
The quiz battle can be seen on YouTube released on June 18th, 2022. Emeritus Professor Makoto Kobayashi acted as the presenter of the champion board.
