Mechanical Engineering Center’s Masterpiece: Processing of accelerator cavities by the cold spray method
The Mechanical Engineering Center is developing alternative methods of cavity fabrication to conventional welding method. One such method is the cold spray method. After the cavity is produced by spraying and laminating the material into the mold, the outer shape is finished by machining. The left half of Fig.1 shows the state after cold spraying and the right half shows it after machining. It is difficult to produce a smooth surface when machining parts made by cold spraying or sintering. However, an NC lathe newly introduced last fiscal year was used, and smooth machined surfaces were achieved by drawing on our experience.
