Surface Science Section in Synchrotron Radiation Science Division 1 is dedicated to revealing origin of unique functionalities at surface and interface by effectively using various probes such as synchrotron radiation, and to creating novel functional materials. Moreover, novel surface observation techniques are being developed, which are required for the research.
The section consists of two research groups managed by Profs. Kenta Amemiya and Koji Horiba, which are aiming at elucidation of functions at working surface/interface by operando observation, and creation and observation of novel electronic states at surface/interface, respectively. The successful candidate will promote advanced surface science research by using synchrotron radiation, as well as neutron, muon and positron, as a member of either of the research groups. Moreover, to promote the research, he or she is expected to perform development of novel experimental techniques (especially concerning soft X-ray absorption and photoemission spectroscopies), management of beamlines/apparatus that are bases for the research, and cooperation with researchers in KEK, universities and other research institutes (promotion of collaborative research and joint usage).
