The mission of the Synchrotron Radiation Science (Div. 1 and 2) is to pioneer cutting-edge fields utilizing synchrotron radiation and to produce human resources who can play an active role in a wide range of fields both in Japan and abroad. To this end, we are looking for researchers who are willing to take advantage of their position as staff members of the Institute of Materials Structure Science to produce remarkable research results and contribute to the development of synchrotron radiation science from a broad perspective, not limited to their field of expertise.
The Materials Science Section in Synchrotron Radiation Science Div. 2, aims at science that contributes to the creation of materials, process development, and the understanding of the functional manifestations of materials, and conducts research in collaboration with not only members of the institute but also users in industry, government, and academia in Japan and abroad, utilizing various experimental techniques such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

The successful candidate belongs to the Materials Science Section as the section leader, and is expected to lead new research in the field of materials science by advancing the necessary measurement methods based on the research infrastructure established at related beamlines, etc., and by playing a bridging role with domestic and overseas research groups conducting research and development on various materials. Although there is no restriction on the field in which he/she will conduct research as a PI, it is desirable to conduct research in the field of materials science in a broad sense, taking into account future social needs and the expansion of academic fields. In addition, we expect him/her to work not only on synchrotron radiation but also on the use of other quantum beams, and to contribute to the future plan of the facility.
