IMSS20-3-E

The details of the three research and development fields applied for in this open call are as follows, depending on the mission of each department.

(1) End Station Engineering Section of the Photon Factory
In this Section, in order to develop research that makes use of the characteristics of synchrotron radiation, we are promoting the sophistication of the beamline end stations, including experimental equipment, and the development of utilization techniques. Successful applicant for this open call will participate in the research activities at the beamlines of the X-ray optics/imaging at the Photon Factory. The successful applicant is expected to become a researcher who can contribute to the further development and promotion of this method.

(2) Solid State Physics Section in Synchrotron Radiation Science Div. 1
In this Section, experimental and theoretical studies are conducted to elucidate the origin of the physical properties of condensed matter by investigating the crystal structure and electronic structure by using four types of quantum beams, including synchrotron radiation. Successful candidates for this open call will contribute to the development of novel physical properties or the development of new functional materials by conducting experiments using quantum beams, and will also promote the development of new experimental methods and the improvement of equipment. The successful applicant is expected to become a researcher who can contribute to the promotion of synchrotron radiation science and physical property physics.

(3) Materials Science Section in Synchrotron Radiation Science Div. 2
Our research target of this Section is to identify the mechanism of materials functioning using quantum beams: synchrotron radiation (x-ray), neutron, positron and muon. By utilizing the quantum beams, the successful applicant is expected to carry out researches in one of the following fields: catalysis, energy materials, earth and planetary science, environmental science, and metal or composite materials.

The applicant can apply to the IMSS20-2 as well.
