The successful candidate will belong to the End Station Engineering Section of Photon Factory (PF, SR facility). The section consists of 10 methodological groups and the candidate will lead the management and R&D of beamlines related to life science fields, based on the Macromolecular Crystallography Group and the Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Group. In addition, the candidate will promote human resources development for the future in the SR field.

In order to promote life science research, the PF has developed and upgraded distinctive beamlines utilizing X-ray diffraction and scattering, imaging, and irradiation. Recently, in understanding the relationship between biomolecules and biological phenomena, it is extremely important to take a more multifaceted view of biological phenomena and to understand the complicated correlation between biomolecular structure and function in broader temporal and spatial domains. In collaboration with research groups both inside and outside the PF, the candidate will lead the upgrade, development and management of distinctive beamlines that contribute to a wide range of life science research using synchrotron radiation, including X-ray diffraction, scattering, imaging, and irradiation. In addition, in the next SR facility project, the candidate is expected to take a leading role in developing instrumentations and methodologies regarding with life science research to understand life phenomena at a higher level. The candidate is also expected to enhance domestic and international collaboration with other quantum beam facilities for R&D.
